Built here first, not translated into here

Nepal was not a localisation added to a product designed elsewhere. The default workspace is Nepali, the rupee symbol, the Sunday week and the PAN label are what the software does before anyone configures anything.

A six-day week the reports agree with

The week opens on Sunday and Saturday is the day off. Our own Kathmandu office runs Sunday to Friday. A weekly total that treats Saturday as a working day and Sunday as the weekend is wrong in both directions at once.

VAT with PAN, printed where it is needed

The registration field is labelled PAN because the country table says PAN, and it prints on invoices once set. Per-line rates handle a VAT-registered salon and a non-registered service side by side.

What gets Nepal wrong

Every one of these is something a product built for somewhere else assumes, and every one of them is visible to your staff on the first day rather than to your accountant in month nine.

Kathmandu is five hours forty-five minutes ahead

The offset with the extra quarter hour breaks software that stores a whole-hour offset somewhere. Timezones here are IANA zone names throughout, so Asia/Kathmandu is simply correct rather than approximately correct.

The financial year opens in mid-July

Not on the first of a month, and not on a date any off-the-shelf date picker offers. The product carries 16 July for Nepal.

Rs is not always Rs

The Nepali and Indian rupee share a symbol in most software and confuse everyone. The symbol is overridable per workspace, so a salon that writes NRs can write NRs.

Nothing is illustrated in this section, because there is nothing here to sell. These are the reasons a salon in this market might be right to say no.

No Bikram Sambat calendar

Every date on every screen is Gregorian. The workspace stores a calendar preference and nothing reads it, so a salon that thinks in Baisakh has to convert in its head. This is the single most-asked-for thing in this market and it is not built.

Tax you pay is not tracked, only tax you charge

Expenses record a gross amount and no rate, so the software cannot tell you your input tax. The report gives you output tax properly — turnover and tax by month, and turnover grouped by rate — and your accountant supplies the other half.

Reports run on dates, not on your financial year

The product knows when your year opens and shows it, but nothing defaults to it yet. You pick the dates. That is a small annoyance where the year opens on 1 January and a real one where it does not.

One workspace is one country

Country, currency and registration belong to the workspace, not the branch. A group trading either side of a border runs one workspace each side and consolidates outside the product.
